THE ABSURDITY OF WAR - The Stage performs a play based on a century of war diaries

The Stage, an English-language performing arts community in Tel Aviv, is exploring the world of tragicomedy with a reading of “Traktorfabrik,” a play based on a century of war diaries dating back to World War I. The Belgian-born writer-director Noemi Schlosser told Haaretz on Wednesday that she spent five years reading nothing but war diaries while researching the play.

The Stage is performing a staged play reading of TraktorFabric on Sunday, Aug 17th, at 8PM featuring actors Leor Doron, Nitzan Sitzer & Tomer Shechori. Noemi Schlosser is interviewed on TLV1 Radio on how she went about writing the play in Tel Aviv, her five years of research and her other work in her home country, Belgium.

Asher Gelman, Artistic Director of The Stage, is interviewed in the cover story for the Jerusalem Post’s Magazine about the obstacles faced by the organization, in particular, their One Act Play Festival, due to the simultaneous conflict with Hamas.  Gelman discusses the unique situation, how it has changed the nature of the production, and why it is so important that cultural events continue, not only in spite of the extraordinary situation, but also because of it.
